Ножом храним, непобедим и храбр / Kept by knife, invincible and brave

Говорят, у одного из классиков в рассказе есть фраза: "На столе лежал изящной работы Белевский нож". Родина этого знаменитого ножа – расположенный на берегу Оки небольшой старинный русский город Белев.

В Тульской области был и есть Белевский район (уезд), именно там, по преданию жили искусные мастера, которые знали секрет изготовления острого и прочного ножа, который выходил с горна практически полностью готовым.

Белевский нож – образец древнего цельнокованного ножа. Клинок и рукоять такого ножа ковались из одного куска металла. В отличие от многих произведений кузнечного искусства – это изначально не выставочная, а утилитарная вещь, которой умелые руки и талант мастеров придавали красоту и изящество. Известный знаток кузнечного дела, ученый Анатолий Зимин, который в 20-е годы прошлого века проживал в подмосковной Салтыковке, делал Белевские ножи, расплющивая ручки от кочерги.

Бытует поверие, что Наполеон, отступая из России, забрал с собою во Францию Белевских мастеров. И сейчас там есть местечко Ле Белью, где в музее можно увидеть те самые изящные Белевские ножи.

They say that one of the classic stories has the following phrase: "A gracefully crafted Belevsky knife was on the table". The birthplace of this famous knife is a small ancient Russian city Belev situated on the banks of the Oka river. There is Belevsky district (county) in the Tula region. This is the place where skilled craftsmen lived according to legend. These craftsmen knew the secret of making a sharp and a durable blade, which came out from a furnace almost finished. Belevsky knife is a sample of the ancient one-piece-forged knife. The blade and handle of this knife were forged from one piece of metal. Unlike many works of art of blacksmithing it is originally not an exhibit item but a thing for use. The skilled hands and the talent of masters gave it beauty and grace. The renowned expert in blacksmithing, the scientist Anatoly Zimin, who lived in the in the Moscow region Saltykovka during the 20s of the last century, crafted Belevsky knives, by flattening poker handles. There is a belief that Napoleon retreating from Russia, took with Belevsky masters to France. And now there's the place Le Bellew where very graceful Belevsky knives may be seen at the local museum.
